Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund

School District Account Information

Assembly Bill 2729 (Ruskin), approved by the Governor and Chaptered by the Secretary of State September 30, 2008, created the School District Account (SDA) in the Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund (Fund) within the State Water Resources Control Board. The bill transferred from the Fund to the SDA a sum of $10 million per year in Fiscal Years 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2011-12, to pay for claims filed by school districts in Priority Class D. The bill was amended on January 1, 2010 to include Priority Class B and C school district claims. Senate Bill 1018 (Statutes of 2012) further amended the sunset date of the SDA to January 1, 2016. Any funds remaining in the SDA on that date will revert to the Fund. After January 1, 2016, the State Water Resources Control Board will make payments to Fund claimants, including School District claimants, until the monies in the Fund are exhausted.

School district claims are subject to the same eligibility criteria as all other Fund claims, but they are reimbursed from the SDA.

All Fund claims, including school district claims, are being placed on a budget. For more information on the budget process, please visit http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/water_issues/programs/ustcf/docs/budget/fundupdate_fy1213.pdf
