River and Stream Bioaccumulation Monitoring Surveys

The Bioaccumulation Monitoring Program’s river and stream surveys have focused on the sampling and analysis of sport fish in a one-year screening survey of bioaccumulation in California rivers and streams. The study aims to provide reasonable coverage of popular fishing locations. This effort is part of a long-term comprehensive study of bioaccumulation in California water bodies and occurs every 10 years. Monitoring occurred in 2012 and is planned to occur in 2022.

Rivers Survey (2022)

In 2022, four river and stream locations in the Central Valley Region were sampled as a continuation of the 2011 statewide survey of California rivers and streams, and to support the development of a control program for mercury in Central Valley rivers.

Statewide River and Stream Screening Survey (2011)

In 2011, 568 fish representing 16 species were collected from 63 river and stream locations in the first-ever systematic statewide survey of California rivers and streams.
