Department of Transportation (Caltrans) – Frequently Asked Questions
- All Caltrans construction projects will continue to be covered by the current Caltrans MS4 until the effective date of July 1, 2013 of the re-issued Caltrans MS4 permit, (State Water Board Order 2012-0011-DWQ). Accordingly, the current Caltrans process of submitting Notices of Construction (NOCs) to the Regional Boards is still in effect. The Notice of Intent (NOI) process is not currently required. In addition, as specified in the current Caltrans MS4 permit, Caltrans’ construction management program, including site-specific storm water pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), must be in compliance with the NPDES General Permit for Construction Activities (CGP). The new CGP (State Water Board Order 2009-0009-DWQ) takes effect on July 1, 2010.
As the July 1, 2013 effective date of the re-issued Caltrans MS4 Permit approaches, the State Water Board will post a new FAQ concerning permit coverage for Caltrans construction projects.
