TOTAL RESIDUAL CHLORINE and CHLORINE-PRODUCED OXIDANTS

A Total Residual Chlorine and Chlorine-Produced Oxidants Policy of California is currently being proposed for any dischargers using chlorine in its processes. The proposed policy establishes objectives for Total Residual Chlorine (TRC) and Chlorine Produced-Oxidants (CPO) to be applied to all inland surface waters, enclosed bays, and estuaries through California to protect aquatic life beneficial uses. Consistent statewide procedures are being created to provide regulation in NPDES permits and equitable compliance determination to adequately enforce violations of chlorine excursions.
