Nonpoint Source (NPS) Pollution Control Program
The focus of the NPS Tracking and Monitoring Council (TMC) is to address the Management Measure (MM) /Management Practice (MP) implementation tracking and water quality monitoring needs associated with the NPS Program. The activities of the NPS TMC are intended to enhance filling information needs for implementation tracking and water quality monitoring at many levels (e.g., from local watershed organizations to state and federal agencies and the private sector) and among various programs. These activities will be coordinated with Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program (SWAMP) and other related efforts. There are six objectives of the NPS TMC that will meet both the NPS Program and SWAMP needs. These objectives are to determine:
- The quality of water in California;
- Water quality trends;
- Impairments associated with categories of nonpoint sources;
- Extent of nonpoint source impairment;
- If NPS resources are being invested consistent with water quality problems; and
- If NPS investments are being effective in protecting and restoring water quality.
