  • A facility may choose not to accept certain waste types they are otherwise permitted to accept and is not obligated to accept any permitted material.
  • It is advisable to contact a landfill operator directly to verify waste types currently being accepted, their disposal fees, and operating hours.

The Landfill Permitted Waste Map displays active landfill facilities that are open to the public within the State of California and the waste types they are permitted to accept for disposal. The map replaces the Landfill Waste Acceptance List previously maintained by the State Water Resources Control Board's Land Disposal Program. Landfill facilities may fall under the authority of State and local regulatory agencies including the Regional Water Quality Control Boards (Regional Boards), Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC)CalRecycle, and local enforcement agencies (LEAs).

Waste types listed for each facility are wastes a facility is permitted to accept for disposal in accordance with their Regional Board-issued Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR). Regional Board regulatory information for a facility can be accessed via the State Water Resources Control Board's GeoTracker database, California Integrated Water Quality System Project (CIWQS) database, or contacting the appropriate Regional Board directly.

Solid Waste Facility Permits issued by the LEAs and CalRecycle, also identify waste types a facility is authorized to accept for disposal. CalRecycle and LEA Solid Waste Facility Permits, as well as locations and regulatory information regarding transfer stations and material processing facilities, can be accessed via CalRecycle's Solid Waste Information System (SWIS) database.
