- Water Boards' Strategic Plan Update: 2008 - 2012
The California Water Boards completed the process to update their Strategic Plan in September 2008. A series of forums were conducted to receive input from stakeholders and staff throughout the state. The input identified key areas of focus for the Water Boards to consider in their planning for the next five years. Following input received from four successive versions of the draft Strategic Plan Update: 2008-2012, the State Water Board adopted the plan at its September 2, 2008 meeting.
- CALFED Watershed Grant Program - Implementing Watershed Plans
The State Water Board is now accepting applications for Implementation of Watershed Management Plans. All applicants requesting funds from the CALFED Watershed Grant Program must submit a complete Concept Proposal by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 using the State Water Board’s online system at https://faast.waterboards.ca.gov.- Concept Proposal Solicitation Notice

- 20X2020 Water Conservation
On February 28, 2008 Governor Schwarzenegger wrote to leadership of the California State Senate, outlining key elements of a comprehensive solution to problems in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The first element on the Governor's list was “a plan to achieve a 20 percent reduction in per capita water use statewide by 2020.” In March 2008 the 20x2020 Agency Team goal was convened to develop a plan to achieve a 20 percent reduction in per capita urban water use statewide by 2020.

Within the Water Board
In 2005, the State Water Resources Control Board adopted “sustainability” as a core value for the California Water Boards' programs, and directed such incorporation into future actions. Resolution 2005-0006 identifies Low Impact Development as a sustainable practice related to water quality supply and water quality protection. Since then, various entities within the California Water Boards have taken steps to encourage sustainability through support of Low Impact Development.
