Biography

Gary C. Shallcross, born 1947, of Monterey, has served several water-related task forces and boards. He was District Director for Assemblymember John Laird from 2002 to 2004 and for Assemblymember Fred Keeley from 1996 to 2002. From 1993 to 1994, he was a volunteer attorney for the Santa Cruz AIDS Project, and from 1989 to 1993, Mr. Shallcross was an attorney with Davis & Schroeder. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California, Irvine and a juris doctorate degree from Monterey College of Law.  

He is a member of Trout Unlimited. 

 

John H. Hayashi

Biography

John H. Hayashi, of Arroyo Grande, previously served on the Board from 2000 to 2003. Hayashi is president of FARM Inc., an agricultural consulting firm, and a partner in Irrigation West, an agricultural irrigation and farm supply sales company. He is the former president of the State Board of Food and Agriculture and is a member of the Agricultural Education Advisory Committee and the California Institute for the Study of Specialty Crops.

Biography

Dave Hodgin, of Scotts Valley, is Chairman of The Pathfinder Companies and is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) with degrees in Economics, International Trade, and extensive experience as a business CEO. In most of these assignments Mr. Hodgin’s task was to operate the company on an interim basis while organizing the business, selecting and training an effective management team.

He is the founding president of the California Small Business Association and the California Travel Parks Association.  He currently serves on the Board of various companies, associations, and community organizations, including the Chair of the Monterey Bay Consultants Group, a member of the Region 5 Board for the Association of California Water Agencies, and as President of the Scotts Valley Water District.

Monica S. Hunter, Ph.D., of Los Osos, is the central coast Regional Coordinator for the Planning and Conservation League Foundation. Dr. Hunter is a former executive board member of the Morro Bay National Estuary Program and is Vice President of Friends of the Estuary at Morro Bay.

Mr. Young, born 1953, of Santa Barbara, is a practicing attorney and focuses on small business and regulatory matters related to the aquaculture industry in California. He is a former owner and operator of Pacific Seafood Industries Inc., a small company that grows oysters and mussels in the Santa Barbara Channel. Mr Young is a member of the Morro Bay Technical Advisory Committee to the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board. He also serves on the Sewer Testing and Maintenance Committee of Project Clean Water for the county of Santa Barbara and the cities of Santa Barbara and Carpinteria.

Mr. Jeffries, born 1935, of Salinas, previously served as the Chair of the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, and was first appointed in 1992. He is the owner and operator of Jeffries Landscaping, a landscape, irrigation design and installation company in Salinas. Mr. Jeffries formerly served as Mayor and Councilman for the City of Salinas from 1981 to 1991, and sits on the Moss Landing Harbor Board as an elected member. He also previously served as a Commissioner for the Salinas Valley Water Commission, and as a member of the Monterey County Water Resources Agency.

 

Dr. Daniel M. Press

Dr. Press, born 1962, of Santa Cruz, is an Associate Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, a position he has held since 1992. He previously served as a Senior Analyst for the EPICS International, an environmental, health and safety management and compliance consulting company. Dr. Press has authored several articles relating to water and environmental studies, including Developing Hazardous Waste Capacity and The Greening of Industry: Achievements and Potential. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Open Space Alliance. Dr. Press earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of California, Davis, and master of arts and doctor of philosophy degrees from Claremont Graduate University.
