Bacterial Water Quality Sampling - Santa Rosa Creek
Sampling Start | Russian River
How often and when are water samples collected?
The Sonoma County Environmental Health Department (SCEHD) and the Regional Water Board collect samples when concern about water quality is raised. The Regional Water Board conducts weekly sampling of Santa Rosa Creek beginning in June and continuing through the dry season. Sampling efforts in 2005 were made possible through the generous assistance of the Sonoma County Department of Health Services (July 2005) and the Community Clean Water Institute (August/September 2005).
Where are the samples collected?
Current bacterial water quality monitoring is conducted at two locations:
the Prince Memorial Greenway area on Santa Rosa Creek downstream from Highway
101, and at 300 Los Alamos Road behind Villa Los Alamos Condominiums in Santa
Rosa.
During 2002, a special monitoring program was conducted by the City of Santa
Rosa at five stream reaches including: Santa Rosa Creek from Railroad Avenue
to Santa Rosa Avenue, Matanzas Creek from E Street to Doyle Park, Spring Creek
from the confluence of Matanzas Creek to Doyle Park, Santa Rosa Creek from
Farmers Lane to Mission Boulevard, and three underground box culverts which
contain Santa Rosa Creek and Matanzas Creek.
What are you testing for?
Water samples are tested for total coliform, E. coli, and Enterococcus bacteria.
How are the data presented?
All weekly data are presented as a table and a corresponding graph. Maps showing the location(s) of sites sampled in past monitoring events are also available below.
