Spills Information - Where do I report spills?

Notification must be made to the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) Warning Center for the following spills:
  • Discharges or threatened discharges of oil in marine waters
  • Any spill or other release of one barrel or more of petroleum products at a tank facility
  • Discharges of any hazardous substances or sewage into or on any waters of the state
  • Discharges that may threaten or impact water quality
  • Discharges of oil or petroleum product, into or on any waters of the state
  • Hazardous Liquid Pipeline releases and every rupture, explosion or fire involving a pipeline.

OES then disseminates the information on a 24-hour, 7 day a week basis to the appropriate agencies, including the Regional Board. Where and when appropriate, Regional Board staff respond to the incident and document the spill for further follow-up and/or enforcement.
