TMDL and 303(d) List - Clean Water Act Section 303(d) List of Impaired Waterbodies
Subscribe on-line to our Impaired Waterways 303(d) List, electronic mailing lists.
Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act requires the identification of waterbodies that do not meet, or are not expected to meet, water quality standards (i.e., impaired waterbodies). The affected waterbody, and associated pollutant or stressor, is then prioritized in the 303(d) List. The Clean Water Act further requires the development of a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for each listing. The current list, approved by the EPA, is the 2006 303(d) List. The State and Regional Boards are currently working on updating the 303(d) list as part of the development of the 303(d)/305(b) Integrated Report. The Water Quality Control Policy for Developing California’s Clean Water Act Section 303(d) List (Listing Policy) describes the requirements for developing the 303(d) list in California.
- Impaired waterbodies in Region 5 that still need TMDLs
- Impaired waterbodies being addressed by USEPA Approved TMDLs (Region 5 starts on page 40)
- NEW - Microsoft Excel Version of the 2006 303(d) list for Region 5, 112 KB, MS Excel File
This file includes both listings requiring TMDLs and listings already being addressed by USEPA approved TMDLs. The file does not include potential source categories, which can be found in the pdf versions of the 2008 303(d) list at the links above.
2008 Update to the 303(d) Report and Development of 305(b) Report
In addition to the impaired waterbody list required by Clean Water Act Section 303(d), Clean Water Act section 305(b) requires states to develop a report assessing statewide surface water quality. The State and Regional Boards are currently working on the development of a 303(d)/305(b) Integrated Report which will address both an update to the 303(d) list and a 305(b) assessment of statewide water quality. The Integrated Report is scheduled to be completed in 2008.- Notice of Postponement/Revised Notice of Public Workshop on Assessment of Potential Temperature Impairments in the Merced, Tuolumne, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin Rivers, 45 KB, PDF (PDF info)
